Lorena B. Smith, DNP, MSN-L, RN, LNC

Dr. Lorena B. Smith is a nurse educator, academic leader, consultant, speaker, and published scholar with more than 23 years of nursing experience spanning clinical practice, nursing education, academic leadership, simulation, clinical informatics, curriculum development, and professional development. As founder of LB RN Consultant, LLC, she partners with nursing programs, healthcare organizations, and education companies to strengthen curriculum, educational quality, program outcomes, and professional practice.

Her career has provided a broad view of nursing education from the bedside to the classroom and from simulation and clinical informatics to academic and organizational leadership. Dr. Smith has served as a BSN Dean, Assistant Dean of Clinical Services, Director of Simulation, Director of Clinical Education and Acute Care Informatics, and Director of Education. Across these roles, she has led curriculum and program improvement, accreditation and regulatory initiatives, faculty and professional development, simulation-based education, competency development, educational technology initiatives, and strategies supporting learner and organizational success.

Dr. Smith earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Educational Leadership from Chamberlain University and her Master of Science in Nursing in Leadership and Healthcare Systems from Grand Canyon University. Her work is further informed by experience in undergraduate and graduate nursing education, curriculum and educational content development, competency-based learning, assessment development, simulation, and accreditation and program quality.

A published nursing education scholar, peer reviewer, consultant, and professional speaker, Dr. Smith's scholarly and professional interests include curriculum innovation, simulation and practice readiness, nursing leadership, professional safety, healthcare ethics, faculty development, clinical judgment, and the preparation of nurses for the complexities of contemporary practice.
